1. Overview

Audio Booster ("the Extension", "we", "our") is a Chrome browser extension that enhances audio on websites using the Web Audio API. This Privacy Policy explains our data practices — or more precisely, the complete absence of them.

We are committed to your privacy. The Extension is designed from the ground up to operate without collecting, transmitting, or storing any personal data on remote servers.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect, access, process, or transmit any of the following:

  • Your identity or personal information (name, email, IP address)
  • Your browsing history or URLs visited
  • Your audio content or media files
  • Usage statistics, analytics, or telemetry data
  • Crash reports or error logs sent to remote servers
  • Cookies or tracking identifiers
  • Any information from other tabs or websites

3. What Is Stored Locally

The Extension uses Chrome's chrome.storage.local API to save your preferences locally in your browser. This data never leaves your device and includes:

  • Your equalizer band settings (±15 dB per band)
  • Volume boost level and compressor settings
  • Enhancement toggles (bass boost, vocal clarity, reverb, etc.)
  • Your custom saved presets and their names
  • UI preferences (visualizer style, last active tab)
  • The name of the last applied preset

This data is stored only on your device. It is not synced to any server, not associated with your identity, and can be cleared at any time by removing the Extension or clearing browser extension data.

4. Permissions Explained

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions, each with a specific, limited purpose:

"storage" Local only

Used to save your audio settings, custom presets, and UI preferences to your local browser storage. No data is sent to any server.

"activeTab" Current tab only

Grants access to the currently active browser tab only, and only when you interact with the Extension. Used to connect the audio processing engine to the page's Web Audio context. The Extension does not read, track, or log any content from the page.

"scripting" Audio pipeline only

Required to inject the audio processing script into the active tab. Without this, the Extension cannot intercept and enhance audio through the Web Audio API. The injected script performs audio processing only — it does not read DOM content, form data, cookies, or any other page information.

5. Third-Party Services

Audio Booster does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The Extension makes no network requests except to load extension assets (icons, SVG files) from its own bundled resources via chrome.runtime.getURL.

The "Buy Me a Coffee" support button links to buymeacoffee.com, which is an external website with its own privacy policy. Clicking this link is entirely voluntary and not required to use the Extension.

6. Data Security

Because the Extension stores all data locally and transmits nothing externally, the security of your settings is governed by your own device and browser security. We recommend keeping your browser up to date for the best security posture.

7. Children's Privacy

Audio Booster does not target or knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the EU/EEA). Since we collect no personal information from anyone, this is automatically satisfied.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we update this Privacy Policy, the new version will be posted on this page with an updated date. Since we collect no data, any future changes would only reflect technical or legal clarifications, not new data practices.

9. Your Rights

Since Audio Booster collects no personal data, there is no personal data to access, export, or delete. If you wish to remove locally stored settings, you can:

  • Remove the Extension from Chrome (chrome://extensions)
  • Clear extension storage via Chrome's developer tools
